What is a Chromebook?
A Google Chromebook is a laptop-like computer which allows students to instantly connect to the Internet, utilize apps and resources online, collaborate with peers in real-time, participate in real-world research, create documents and multimedia projects and presentations, practice 21st-century skills, and more. Students will work in the "cloud," which offers secure storage and easily accessible educational applications.

News Articles about GVHS 1:Web Program
In the 2013-2014 school year, nine teachers in Science, Social Science, English, Math, English Language Development, and Special Education embarked upon a one-to-one pilot program at Golden Valley. These teachers had a cart of Chromebooks for students to utilize in class each day. Golden Valley also established our Instructional Leadership Team, which worked with the entire staff to increase our instructional technology skills to best serve our students.
In Spring 2014, Merced Union High School District purchased enough Chromebooks for every student at Golden Valley to check out a device for the 2014-2014 school year. The device purchased is the Lenovo Chromebook and will run Google Chrome OS.
Internet Essentials from Comcast
Comcast is offering low-cost, high-speed Internet for $9.95/month for eligible families. To qualify for the program, a family must meet all of the criteria below:
Insurance & Protective Covers
We highly recommend that students/parents purchase device insurance through the third-party company, Worth Avenue Group. Rates are very reasonable and the coverage protection is excellent.
We also recommend students/parents purchase some sort of protective cover to carry their device in. The Golden Valley SBO will have multiple cases available for purchase, but there are many others available online.
Neither of these purchases are required, just recommended.
